Karimunjawa National Park is one of the oldest marine conservation areas in Indonesia designated in 2001. The park is located 201 km north of Semarang (Central Java Province) and consists of 22 islands with a total area of 111,625 ha. The park is home to 509 reef fish species, 76 hard coral genera, 9 seagrass species, 3 sea turtle species, and 45 mangroves and their associated species. The park is essential for the locals, providing important fisheries resources, as well as critical habitat for key fish species in the area and the Java Sea in general.

Potential conservation benefits in saving biodiversity

Potential reduction of species extinction risk resulting from threat abatement actions

Absolute value (STAR)

0.3

0% of the total biodiversity conservation potential of Indonesia is covered by this project.

83,417.9

26.9% of Asia's biodiversity conservation potential is from Indonesia.

309,761.9

25.9% of global biodiversity conservation potential is from Asia.

The chart below represents the relative disaggregation of the selected contribution's total potential opportunity for reducing global species extinction risk through taking actions to abate different threats to species within its boundaries. The percentages refer to the amount of the total opportunity that could potentially be achieved through abating that particular threat.
