The Northern Boreal Mountains region of Yukon and northern British Columbia have some of the last remaining intact wildlife communities in North America. This region encompasses the Traditional Territories of 17 First Nations, including 10 self-governing Nations with modern treaties. The Northern Boreal Mountains area is a rugged and remote region with diverse ecosystems including pristine lakes and rivers, boreal and subalpine forests, and alpine tundra. Valley bottoms provide the richest and most productive habitats and major rivers support several Pacific salmon runs sustaining wildlife and people. Grey wolf, wolverine, lynx, and grizzly bear have room to roam, while their prey abound, including mountain caribou, thinhorn sheep, moose, and mountain goat. This mountainous region provides critical stopover sites for birds migrating to Arctic breeding grounds and breeding habitat for 200 bird species, including species that winter as far away as South America.

0% of the total biodiversity conservation potential of The Americas is covered by this project.

543,527.6

45.4% of global biodiversity conservation potential is from The Americas.

The chart below represents the relative disaggregation of the selected contribution's total potential opportunity for reducing global species extinction risk through taking actions to abate different threats to species within its boundaries. The percentages refer to the amount of the total opportunity that could potentially be achieved through abating that particular threat.
