Appropriate staffing capacity and visitor facilities are an important concern for about two-third of protected areas managed by the Bahamas National Trust, and this concern is particularly important in areas where tourism is a threat, as is the case of Lucayan National Park (LNP) on the island of Grand Bahama. The project goal was to enhance the management and governance of a IUCN priority area, by addressing existing limitations through strengthening on-site infrastructure and equipment for managing visitation and improving park operations. The project was successfully executed, with the following outcomes: - One (1) Priority Conserved Area with improved and sustainable access and visitor's management. - 7.84 Km2 with improved and sustainable access and visitor’s management. - 20 missions to support surveillance and enforcement patrols and park maintenance priorities during project cycle. - One (1) new building constructed and outfitted visitor center. - More than twenty-five (25) resource users and key stakeholders engaged to support project activities.

Potential conservation benefits in saving biodiversity

Potential reduction of species extinction risk resulting from threat abatement actions

Absolute value (STAR)

15.5

1.2% of the total biodiversity conservation potential of Bahamas is covered by this project.

1,270.6

0.2% of The Americas's biodiversity conservation potential is from Bahamas.

543,527.6

45.4% of global biodiversity conservation potential is from The Americas.

The chart below represents the relative disaggregation of the selected contribution's total potential opportunity for reducing global species extinction risk through taking actions to abate different threats to species within its boundaries. The percentages refer to the amount of the total opportunity that could potentially be achieved through abating that particular threat.
