The Applied Environmental Research Foundation (AERF) is one of the most highly regarded NGO’s in India with a record of research and activism aimed at the conservation of natural resources together with local community involvement and development. It has pioneered numerous ecosystem rehabilitation projects (for example the conservation of the sacred groves) in the Western Ghats, North Eastern India and the Himalayas. AERF believes in establishing a link between research and its effective use in the process of development for poverty alleviation, sustainable resource use and participatory conservation.
