The Wildlife Trusts are a federation of 46 independent, place-based charities working across the UK, Alderney and the Isle of Man, supported by the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts (RSWT), our central coordinating charity founded in 1912 by Charles Rothschild. Together, we are the UK’s largest people-powered movement for nature, with deep roots in local communities and a shared purpose: to bring about nature’s recovery on land and at sea. Our strength lies in combining local knowledge, community trust and practical conservation experience with a powerful collective voice. For more than a century, The Wildlife Trusts have protected and restored some of the UK’s most important places for wildlife, from ancient woodlands, wetlands and wildflower meadows to rivers, peatlands, coastlines and marine habitats. Today, we manage nature reserves, deliver landscape-scale recovery programmes, influence policy, support communities, and inspire people of all ages to act for nature. The Wildlife Trusts bring a distinctive contribution to the international conservation community. We demonstrate how locally led, community-rooted action can scale into national impact, and how restoring nature can support climate resilience, wellbeing, sustainable livelihoods and stronger connections between people and place.
